Resorts - Skills, Training and Employment

For twenty years the Skyblue crew has undertaken research with strategic organisations responsible for funding or delivering skills, training or employment programmes in the UK.

Skyblue organises memorable events. Here is a recent skills event that engaged WorldSkills champions, tutors and demonstrators requiring the audience to create a flower buttonhole under competition conditions as part of a wider message to celebrate vocational skills excellence

What's hot?
We are currently consulting on a number of challenges for clients relating to 14-19 workforce reform; the translation of the national skills strategy in the regions and at local authority level; NINJ sector programmes; employer responsiveness; Train to Gain; Apprenticeships; WorldSkills and the opportunity to promote vocational skills; and enterprise education.
What do our clients tell us they want?

Through numerous changes of Government machinery and the publication of high level skills strategies (many of which we have directly influenced and contributed to) we have always tried to keep focused on what really matters to our clients. We know how passionate they are, and how hard they work to put training or employment programmes in place, and they tell us that they want programmes that make a genuine difference in society and in the economy. They want projects that provide real outcomes for real people. And we share that passion.

What can we do to help?
  • Undertake local skills audits with businesses and residents to make sure any skills, training or employment programme you propose will be relevant to the community or local economy you are targeting
  • Carry out business, workforce, learner and community surveys to find out what skills or training needs exist in a selected geographical area or industry sector and use brokerage skills to identify how that training need can be met
  • Forecast what skills and jobs might be created by any proposed ‘big capital developments or regeneration projects’ before they are signed and sealed in order to be sure that a local labour market has the skills and desire to fill any new jobs that might be created
  • Identify ways in which an existing skills or employment programme can be improved, made more attractive or scaled up to reach a greater number of beneficiaries
  • Work with learning providers (e.g. colleges, universities, private providers) to help them package up, rationalise, collaborate and / or create relevant training opportunities and products that will meet any specialist requirement in a local economy

Who can you ask about our work?

Now, more than ever perhaps, we are finding that our deep and continuous experience in this field, and our familiarity with the sometimes complex or changing landscape of ‘skills’ is being most valued by clients such as Sector Skills Councils, National Skills Academies, the Skills Funding Agency and Local Authorities. If you want us to provide you with example references or if you have got a project to discuss please contact Alan Graver on 01904 340942 or email alan@skyblue.org.uk.
